Warren Lumberjacks Defeat Crossett Eagles

The Lumberjack defense goes for the ball.
The Warren Lumberjacks took on the Crossett Eagles at James E. Hurley, Jr. Stadium Friday night.  Chris Oliver received the opening kickoff and took the ball to the Lumberjack 30 yard line.  Von Eric Gonder passed to Jalen Cobb giving the Jacks a first down on their own 41 yard line.  Sophomore Otis Miller carried the ball on the next two plays for the Jacks.  Gonder's pass to Darveon Brown put the Jacks on the Eagle 38 yard line.  Gonder connected with Brown, and the Jacks found themselves on the 25 yard line.  Inside the 25 yard line, the Jacks were unable to make a first down or punch it in and turned the ball over to the Eagles on downs.

On the second drive of the Lumberjacks, Gonder kept the ball for two quarterback keepers with the second one netting a gain of 16 yards and brought the ball to the Jacks 44 yard line.  However, the drive stalled and the Jacks had to punt.

Crossett gained the ball on the 20 yard line.  After a false start, on second and 14, the Eagles quarterback completed a pass to midfield.  After a fumble,  the Jacks resumed control of the ball.

Coach Hembree adjusted his game and brought in sophomore Drake Jones as quarterback.  From the 47 yard line, Jones first went to Odis Miller and then to Chris Oliver.  Then he completed a pass to Jalen Cobb.  A horse collar penalty was called on the play against the Eagles, and the Jacks were threatening on the Eagle 14 yard line.  After a quarterback keeper, Jones went to Jemmario Thomas, and then the Jacks fell victim to a bad snap which went over Jones head.  However, he was able to recover the ball.  On the next play, Jones attempted a pass which was intercepted by the Eagles.

The Lumberjacks rush for yardage.
After the Eagles came up empty, the Lumberjacks took the ball once again with Jones as the quarterback.  On the second play, Jones handed the ball off to Miller who rushed for a 13 yard gain bringing the Jacks to the Eagle 47 yard line.  Jones went right back to Miller and then passed the ball to Cobb, advancing the Lumberjacks to the Eagles 21.  Jones got the ball in the hands of Darveon Brown for the first Lumberjack touchdown of the night.  The PAT was no good.  The Jacks led the Eagles 6-0.

Later in the half, Jones completed a 30 yard pass to Brown which netted another Lumberjack touchdown.  The PAT was again no good.  The Jacks led increased to 12-0.

Junior Dey'Shawn Mcrae broke up the Eagles drive with an interception giving the Jacks field position at the 38 yard line.  Jones passed to Brown and then to Gonder.  On the following play Jones completed a 26 yard pass to  Gonder who made a one-handed catch in the end zone.  The PAT by Fernando Sedano was good.  The score stood, Lumberjacks 19, Crossett 0.

Shortly before the half, the Lumberjacks recovered a fumble by the Eagles at the 42 yard line.   Jones got the ball to Oliver who took it to the Eagle 9 yard line.  Jones handed the ball off to Miller who pushed his way into the end zone for another Lumberjack touchdown.  The PAT was no good.  The half ended with the Lumberjacks leading 25-0.

In the third quarter with 5:07 left, Jones moved the ball to the Lumberjack 32 on a keeper.  In the next three plays, Jones handed the ball off to Miller.  On the third carry, Miller took the ball to the Eagle 44 yard line.  Jones then completed a pass to Jalen Cobb for a touchdown.  Sedano's PAT was good and the score was brought to 32-0.

The Eagles mounted their only successful offensive drive with 10:43 left in the fourth quarter.  They managed a touchdown.  Their PAT was successful.  The score was 32-7.

The Jacks answered as Jones handed the ball off to Oliver who was brought down at the Lumberjack 42 yard line.  On the next play, Jones handed the ball off to Miller who rushed for 35 yards. On first and goal at the Eagles 6 yard line Miller rushed for a two-yard gain.  On the next play, Miller was called on again and gained another yard.  Jones's quarterback keeper failed to gain yardage, and the Lumberjacks turned the ball over on downs inside the five yard line.

Starting deep in Lumberjack territory on the one yard line, the Eagles were stopped again by the Lumberjack defense and had to punt.

Jones completed a pass to Brown.  On first and ten on the Eagle 1 yard line, the Jones again handed off to Miller who took the ball in for another Lumberjack touchdown.  The PAT by Sedano was good.  With 4:32 left in the game, the Jacks led 39-7.
