UAM Softball Remains Unbeaten in GAC

CONWAY, Arkansas - The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team kept its unbeaten record in Great American Conference games intact with a double-header sweep over Ouachita Baptist on Saturday by scores of 8-3 and 13-4.

Saturday's games were played in Conway at the University of Central Arkansas due to unplayable field conditions in Arkadelphia. The final two games of the scheduled four-game series have been cancelled.

The Blossoms (12-3, 6-0 GAC) scored their runs in bunches on Saturday, plating seven in the top of the third inning of the first game and posting four multi-run frames in the second game.

UAM sophomore McKenzie Rice opened the day's scoring with an RBI groundout in the top of the first inning of the first game. UAM's seven-run third featured a two-run homerun from junior Holly Wilmarth, a two-run triple from Rice, a two-run single from senior Kayley Willingham and an RBI single from senior Lacy Blanchard.

In the second game, UAM scored two runs in the second, two in the fourth, five in the fifth and four in the sixth. Four of UAM's starters finished the game with at least two hits, led by Rice and true freshman Aubree Head with three hits each. Head racked up four RBI and two extra base hits in the win.

Senior Katie Slaughter and sophomore McKenzie Ashby both turned in complete-game pitching efforts for the Blossoms in Saturday's sweep. Slaughter (5-1) allowed three runs off nine hits with four strikeouts and one walk, while Ashby (3-0) gave up four runs (one earned) off 10 hits with two strikeouts and one walk.

The Blossoms and Lady Tigers will look to reschedule the other two games of the series for a date to be determined. The next scheduled games for UAM are this upcoming Wednesday, March 11 at home against Delta State. First pitch for the non-conference double header is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Blossoms Field.
