WEEVILS BASEBALL FACES SAVAGE STORM WITH FIRST PLACE ON THE LINE

MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team is on the road for the final time of the 2016 regular season this weekend to face off against Southeastern Oklahoma State with first place in the Great American Conference at stake.

The 25th-ranked Weevils (27-11, 17-7 GAC) are currently tied with Southwestern Oklahoma State for first place in the conference. Just four one-thousandths of a percentage point behind those two teams is Southeastern Oklahoma State at 24-18 overall and 19-8 in the GAC.

UAM is currently on a five-game winning streak, including a 5-2 non-conference win over Harding this past Wednesday on the road. This past weekend, the Weevils earned their third GAC series sweep and seventh series win of the season by taking three from East Central at home.

Southeastern has registered wins in 13 of their last 15 games, including its most recent three-game sweep over defending GAC champion Southern Arkansas in Durant last weekend.

Both UAM and Southeastern have clinched spots in the 2016 GAC Championship Tournament, which starts at host sites May 6-7. The top four seeds will host the bottom four seeds, respectively, in three-game series to determine the participants of the tournament’s final four round to be played at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia May 13-15.

This weekend’s series between the Weevils and Savage Storm includes a single game on Friday, April 22 at 2 p.m. and a double-header on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. Live stats and streaming video can be found at www.UAMsports.com/coverage.aspx. Updates will also be tweeted @UAMsports.
