WEEVIL SBASEBALL REMAINS IN NATIONAL, REGIONAL RANKINGS

MONTICELLO — Following a 1-3 record in the final week of the regular season, the University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team remains in this week’s national and regional polls heading into the first round of the postseason.

The Weevils drop to No. 27 in the Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division II Top 30, and fall three spots to No. 7 in this week’s NCAA Division II Central Region poll.

UAM finished the regular season with an overall record of 31-14 and a 21-9 mark in Great American Conference games. The Weevils are the No. 2 seed in the GAC Championship Tournament, which opens this weekend at host sites around the league. The top four seeds host the bottom four seeds in best-of-three series to determine the four participants in the championship round next weekend, May 12-14, in Arkadelphia at Henderson State University’s Clyde Berry Field.

As far as regional rankings go, the Weevils are still in the mix for a spot in the national tournament. The top eight seeds in the final poll advance to the regional tournament, usually hosted by the top seed. Automatic qualifiers are granted to the winners of the region’s three conference championship tournament winners. The central region is composed of the GAC, the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.

The Weevils host No. 7 seed Harding this weekend in the opening round of the GAC tournament. The best-of-three series opens on Friday, May 6. First pitch is 3 p.m. at Weevils Field.
