WEEVILS BASEBALL GETS REMATCH WITH MAVERICKS FOLLOWING 11-RUN WIN

ST. CLOUD, Minnesota — The 24th-ranked University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team advanced to the loser’s bracket finals of the NCAA Central Region Tournament with an 18-7 win over Emporia State on Sunday at Joe Faber Field.

The fourth-seeded Weevils (39-15) have a rematch with eighth-seeded Minnesota State on Sunday at 3:50 p.m. UAM lost to MSU 7-6 on Friday. The Mavericks (36-17) are 4-0 against UAM this season, and have reached this stage of the bracket with a 1-0 win over St. Cloud State, a 7-6 win over UAM, and a 3-0 loss to Central Missouri.

In Sunday’s win over Emporia State (39-19), the Weevils tied a season-high with 20 hits and scored at least 15 runs for the fifth time of the year.

Senior left fielder Kevin Fitzpatrick went 5-for-6 at the plate for a career-high in hits. Senior right fielder Corey Wood went 4-for-6 with seven RBI and two home runs, his 24th and 25th round-trippers of the year. It tied Wood’s season-high in hits and RBI.

Senior shortstop Evan Comeau went 2-for-3 with four runs scored. Sophomore centerfielder Brian Ray with 2-for-6 with a solo home run, his 10th round-tripper of the year. Senior third baseman Nick Cerda went 2-for-5 with a solo home run. Junior designated hitter Guy Halbert was 2-for-5.

Sunday’s game against Minnesota State will be carried live on the UAM Sports Network at KHBM-FM 93.7 in Monticello and online at UAMsports.com. The winner of UAM’s game against Minnesota State advances to the regional finals, and will need to defeat No. 2 seed Central Missouri twice on Monday to advance to the D2 College World Series in Cary, North Carolina.
