MONTICELLO — The 26th-ranked University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team continues its postseason play this weekend at the Great American Conference Championship Tournament Final Four at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia.

The Weevils enter the final four round as the highest seeded team remaining at No. 2. Regular season GAC champion Southwestern Oklahoma State was eliminated by No. 8 seed Arkansas Tech in the tournament’s opening round, which was a best-of-three series hosted by the top four seeds.

Just like UAM did to No. 7 seed Harding, Tech defeated SWOSU in the first two games of the series to advance to final round.

UAM’s first opponent at the final four is No. 3 seed Southeastern Oklahoma State, a team the Weevils swept in a three-game GAC series April 22-23 in Durant, Oklahoma. The Weevils (33-15) and Savage Storm (29-23) match up on Thursday, May 12 at 4:30 p.m. Southeastern needed all three games to win its opening round series against No. 6 seed East Central.

The opening game of the final four features Tech (23-29) taking on No. 4 seed and tournament host Henderson State (29-23) at 1 p.m. HSU beat Southern Arkansas 2-0 in its opening round series.

UAM is 8-2 against the tournament field, the only losses coming to Arkansas Tech. One loss came in the conference series in Russellville. The other was a non-conference game in Monticello that snapped an eight game winning streak for the Weevils.

The tournament is double-elimination, so the Weevils will play on Friday at 1 p.m. or 4 p.m. depending on the outcome of their game against Southeastern.

The winner of this weekend’s tournament will receive an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament, which is scheduled to begin on May 19 at a site to be determined.

All of UAM’s games this weekend will be available on the UAM Sports Network at KHBM-FM 93.7 in Monticello and online at The GAC will also provide live stats and live streaming video at:
