WOOD EARNS MORE ALL-AMERICA HONORS

MONTICELLO — Over the Memorial Day weekend, University of Arkansas at Monticello senior baseball player Corey Wood was selected to two more All-America teams, earning first team honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings and second team honors from the Division II Conference Commissioners Association.

Wood has now been selected to all three major All-America teams at the NCAA Division II level for the 2016 season. In addition to these two All-America teams, he was also named a first-team selection by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

The Fredericton, New Brunswick native ended his collegiate career as the Great American Conference Player of the Year, unanimous All-GAC First Team outfielder, All-Region First Team outfielder by three different organizations, the GAC Championship Tournament Most Valuable Player and the MVP of the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament.

Wood broke UAM records this season in single-season home runs (26), single-season runs scored (67), single-season RBI (90), single-season total bases (183), single-season slugging percentage (.847) and career home runs (35). He also tied the school record for single-season hits with 81. At the GAC level, he broke records for single-season home runs, single-season RBI, career home runs, career RBI (138) and career total bases (293).

Wood is the only player in UAM history to be named to more than one All-America team in the same season, and just the third player in program records to earn first team honors, joining Darrel Rhodes (1982-NAIA) and Joe Daw (1993-NAIA).
