Hogs Open Foreign Tour in Madrid

MADRID, Spain – The Arkansas men's basketball program played the first of four games Tuesday during its foreign tour in Spain, falling to Euro Colegio Casvi 81-75 after a furious second-half rally.

Arkansas trailed by as many as 16 points midway through the third quarter, but started to chip away and cut the ECC lead to 11 heading to the final frame. The Razorbacks used a quick 5-0 run to open the fourth quarter thanks to a layup from Anton Beard and a three-pointer by Daryl Macon to cut the lead to five points, the closest Arkansas had been since trailing 8-2 in the opening minutes.

“Our energy level just wasn’t where it needed to be early on, but credit our guys for fighting back and tying the game,” Arkansas head coach Mike Anderson said. “We had a few bright spots from the younger players, but all in all this is going to be a learning experience as we grow as a team.”

Arkansas came all the way back and knotted the score at 75 on a bucket from Dustin Thomas with 1:09 left, but ECC scored the final six points of the game to seal the victory.

Three Razorbacks finished in double figures, led by 11 points apiece from Manuale Watkins and Dusty Hannahs, while Macon added 10 points and two steals in 17 minutes of action. Trey Thompson led the way on the glass with seven rebounds and Thomas tallied six rebounds and four assists.

Arkansas will pack its bags Wednesday morning and travel to Albacete, Spain, for a 10:30 a.m. CDT tip-off against Albacete Basket. Following the contest, the Razorbacks will make their way to Valencia for the second portion of the three-city tour of the country.
