We've Got the Beat! We've Got the Band...

In the August heat, everyone expects the Warren Lumberjacks to be on the practice field.  At that same time, those hardworking cheerleaders are sweating it out and learning cheers, perfecting precision dance routines, and making signs.  But few people stop to realize that the band also faces summer practices, after school practices, and hard work to perfect their shows for the halftime performances.

If you drive by WHS at almost any hour after school, you can see the flag line twirling those flags, which by the way is a lot harder than they make it look.  You can see and hear the drum corps drumming up the beats that lift spirits every Friday night.  The band has its own practice field, too. They spend countless hours working on those marching routines for their halftime performances and for those hot, fall band contests.

In addition, the band works hard to sound great as well as look great.  For every practice, whether it be a section or the whole band, we should also notice that the directors are there, working hard like the football coaches and the cheer sponsor to see that the Lumberjacks put forth their best effort every week.

It isn't just the halftime that the band plays a big role in Lumberjack spirit.  Throughout the pep rallies and games, it is the band that drums up support and rallies the crowds along with the cheerleaders.

Band parents also have to be commended.  Last week at Crossett, the announcers on the PA were asking for band parents to come to the concession stand to help out.  Band parents at Warren, are masters at running a top notch concession stand.

With the new turf and the great improvements to Jim Hurley, Jr. Stadium, Warren will host the Region 3 Marching Assessment on October 18.  This effort will require much of the Warren Band Parents Association.

Warren's excellence in band has deep roots dating back to Curry and Mary Lou Martin.  Over the past few years, the band has been growing and gaining numbers.  Kuddos to the Warren Lumberjack Band, their Directors (Mr. Kevin Dunn and Mr. Bobby Hagler), and the parents.
