Wonder Boys Host Weevils Saturday

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys football team (1-1) will look to get back into the win column this Saturday, Sept. 17, as Tech plays host to the Arkansas-Monticello Boll Weevils (1-1) in a 6 p.m. matchup under the lights at Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field.

The game will be carried live on 102.3-FM (KCJC) in Russellville, with live audio, video, and statistics available at www.arkansastechsports.com.

The Wonder Boys look to rebound from a setback this past weekend at Oklahoma Baptist, where the Wonder Boys fell 19-15. The Bison jumped out to an early 12-0 lead before Tech got on the board as time expired in the opening quarter. Tech was unable to close the gap in the contest as the Bison won the defensive struggle.

The Boll Weevils, on the other hand, are coming off an upset 35-28 win over Southwestern Oklahoma. After using a pass-heavy attack in the opening week, UAM went to a balanced attack in the second week of the season. Regardless, the Boll Weevils have been able to put large numbers of points on the board in both contests.

The matchup provides an interesting contrast, as UAM's prolific offense will meet up with an Arkansas Tech defense that has allowed just 9.5 points per game this season, and ranks second in the GAC in yards allowed. A trio of newcomers has put up big numbers defensively as Seth Culp (19 tackles), Eric McPherson (15 tackles), and Jimmie Lofton (12 tackles) rank among the team leaders. Returners Bruce Livingston (13 tackles) and Cua' Rose (10 tackles) also sit near the top of the team rankings.

Party at the Plaza, the pre-game tailgating celebration outside the stadium will begin at 4 p.m., and the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns basketball national champion teams from 1991-92 and 1992-93 will be honored as part of the halftime festivities.

Two former Lumberjacks will face off in this matchup.  Terrez Hampton plays for the Wonder Boys, and Kaleel Thomas plays for the Weevils.
