Lumberjack Coach Talks to salineriverchronicle.com

Warren Lumberjack boys basketball coach Josh Nix stopped by the studio of salineriverchronicle.com and talked about the Sr. boys 2016-2017 basketball season to date and hopes to keep playing in the state regional tournament and the class AAAA state tournament.
Warren boys and girls will play their first games in the conference 84A tournament beginning Thursday February 16th at the Pine Bluff Convention Center.

Coach Nix, in his first year as the boys basketball coach stated that the guys are 16-11 on the year and 4-2 in conference play.  Warren plays in the 84A South conference and during the regular season played Monticello, Hamburg and Crossett twice each.  The conference tournament will consist of all eight teams which includes Dumas, Dollarway, DeWitt and Star City.  Warren will enter the tournament as the # 2 seed of the South division.  Their first game is Thursday, February 16th beginning at around 5:30 P.M.

Coach Nix stated that he feels the team has improved all year and is learning to finish strong.  He talked about having moved up 9th grader Vincent Stepps a couple of weeks ago to bolster the Sr, Team and said he has moved up T. J. Phillips and J. J. Hampton at the conclusion of the Jr. High Season to provide more depth.  He stated that when  Stepps moved to the Sr. Team, it allowed some of the Jr. High players to develop more rapidly.  It must have worked as the Jr. Jacks completed a very good year and won the 84A South Division District Tournament.

The coach indicated he is excited to be at Warren and believes the basketball program has a bright future.  When asked about getting the season started late every year due to the success of the football program, he grinned and said "that is a good thing."  He was sporting a Lumberjack football shirt during the interview.  He is dedicated to making Warren competitive in basketball year in and year out.
