UAM Cheer Squad Captures Top Prize

TULSA, Oklahoma — The University of Arkansas at Monticello cheerleading squad won the 2017 Jamfest Nationals this weekend in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Holding the trophy is Warren's own Krista Sparks, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Sparks.
UAM complied day one scores of 90.18, and day two scores of 91.53 to ultimately claim the top prize at the event with a combined score of 90.85.

On the opening day of the competition, judges responded to the teams routine saying it had a very strong opening with a lot of creativity, and that opening stunt sequence was very strong. UAM Cheer's last pyramid structure was however shaky and fell in the last second of the routine.

The second day of competition saw UAM Cheer refocused and hitting a no deduction routine, and received feedback from the judges stating the team's performance had great energy and high enthusiasm, along with complimenting the squads overall dance in its footwork, visual elements, and partner work.

The UAM cheerleaders received squad medals, a trophy, a banner, and team national championship jackets in their winning efforts as well.

"I am very proud of the hard work this team has put into this routine," head coach Krystal Shipp said. "Lots of early morning workouts, late night practices, and performances. They ended this years competition season with a bang!"

"I am looking forward to continuing our competitive cheerleading program at UAM. Tryouts for the 2017-2018 cheer squad is May 1-6th. Tryout information can be found at uamsports.edu," coach Shipp added.
