New Soccer Goals Installed At Axley Field

Two brand new soccer goals were installed Wednesday, July 27, 2017 at the the Warren's Axley Field on Seminary Street.

The YMCA announced the installation of the goals ahead of the August 16 deadline for fall soccer.  YMCA Fall Soccer is open to ages 3-17.  It costs $50 for members and $65 for nonmembers.

Scholarship are available, but applications for scholarships must be turned in to the DWR YMCA no later than August 9, 2017. According to a flyer released by the YMCA, "There will be no registrations taken after August 16, 2017."

Axley Field, which served as the official home for Warren Lumberjack Football since it's construction during the 1930s, is now being given a renewed life as a modern soccer facility.

Warren Mayor Bryan Martin spoke to swtimes.com in late June at was quoted as saying Axley Field is “ going to have bleachers, parking, restrooms, a concession area, lighting, (and) a ticket office. It will be handicap accessible and, of course, the field will be improved.”

With the full installation of the soccer goals at Axley, Warren is now home to three soccer fields, one at the Warren City Athletic Complex, Jim Hurley, Jr. Stadium, and now Axley.
