UAM Softball Camp Set To Start July 11

MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team will host its 22nd annual Alvy Early Softball Camp for aspiring players from ages 6-17 at the Monticello Sports Complex on July 11 through July 13.

Longtime UAM softball coach Alvy Early, entering his 22nd season as head coach of the program, will be the camp director. The staff will consist of several outstanding and successful high school coaches from Arkansas, Texas, and Louisiana, including camp coordinator Kent Early of the 2016 Class 7A state champion Bentonville High School – the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette's Arkansas Softball Coach of the Year.

Other state championship and state runner-up coaches will be on hand, as well as former and current Arkansas-Monticello players will also participating in the instruction.

Each camper will receive individual instruction in all phases of the game of softball.  The position and fundamental session will familiarize the campers with basic fundamentals needed to play all on-field positions.  The hitting sessions will provide every camper with extensive instruction in the mechanics and techniques of hitting. The pitching and catching sessions provide catchers a working knowledge of their position through drills and personal instruction while the pitchers work on the absolutes of pitching fundamentals as well as a performer on the field.

The camp will run from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on the first and second days, and last from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. on the final day of camp. The check-in period for the camp will be from 8 a.m. until 9 a.m. and the cost per camper ages 6-11 will be $100, and campers ages 12-17 will be $125.
