Lumberjacks Dominate Star City

Photos to follow...

The Warren Lumberjacks traveled to Star City Arkansas Friday night, September 29th and faced off against the Star City Bulldogs in a big 8-4A conference contest.  From the first kickoff to the final whistle, Warren dominated the game and started out with a 95 yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Treylon Burks, the highly touted wide receiver.  Jesus Tinoco made the point after and Warren jumped ahead 7-0.  Due to a few Warren penalties and one long pass, Star City threatened and drove inside the Warren five yard line.  The Jacks defense held and took over.  The teams exchanged punts and the first quarter ended with Warren up 7-0.

Warren punted to begin the second quarter and then forced a punt by the Bulldogs.  With 7:02 remaining in the quarter, J'malachi Kinnard hit Treylon Burks for a 20-yard touchdown pass.  Tinoco hit the PAT and Warren went ahead 14-0.  The teams kept battling back and forth.  Warren's Donovan Ross then blocked a Bulldog punt and the Jacks took over at the 11-yard line.  Shortly thereafter Keemontrae McKnight ran in a TD from the one and Tinoco made the extra point.  Warren lead 21-0 at halftime.

The Lumberjacks kicked off to start the second half and Star City had a good return to the Warren 47.  A field goal attempt later failed and Warren took over at their own twenty.  At the 5:45 mark of the third quarter Kinnard hit Treylon Burks for a 39 yard touchdown pass and Tinoco again hit the PAT and the Jacks went up 28-0.  With 1:57 left in the third quarter Kinnard threw a beautiful play action pass for a 17 yard touchdown to Cade Reep who made a nice catch and with Tinoco's point after, Warren lead 35-0.

The fourth quarter began with the clock running continuously.  With a large number of backup players in on defense and with the help of a holding penalty against Warren, Star City finally scored on a 7-yard touchdown run.  The extra point was good and the game ended with a Lumberjack victory by the score of 35-7.

The Warren defense was superb all night and the offense showed explosiveness when needed and got better as the night went forward.  The special teams played well overall.  A large Warren crowd was on hand cheering on the Lumberjacks.  Warren's offensive line got more consistent as the game went on.  Davis Pennington, Michael Miranda, Joe Morris, Mark Hairston, Dylan Higgins, Will Woodard and others provided holes and helped protect Kinnard.  On the defensive line Marcus Miller, Wallace Smith, Will Woodard, Davis Pennington and others did a great job.  Psavian Person and Donovan Ross continued to play well and delivered blows to the bulldog offense.  Warren'e secondary has gotten better and better.  Braden Hargis did a good job along with Luke Gorman, Damarcus Gilbert, Caleb Watson, Kinnard and others.  Joseph Brown, J.J. Hampton and Kilay Davis are contributing big.  Given the opportunity, the second teams are also competing  hard.

Warren stays on the road next week and will travel to Dumas to face the Bobcats.  The kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 P.M.  Dumas is picked as one of the better teams in 84A for 2017.  Need another large crowd of Lumberjack fans to travel to Dumas and support the team.
