Sports Reception Honors Warren Athletes

The Warren High School All-Sports Reception was held Monday night with an overflowing crowd in attendance.  The program consisted of awards in all sports except football.  Those awards were handed out in the March ring ceremony banquet.

A welcome to the event was issued by Emcee Gregg Reep, and a response was given by Senior Jaylon Marshall.  Senior Lady Jack soccer player Cristal Couto gave the invocation.  She was followed by Athletic Director Bo Hembree introducing the coaching staff.  After hall of fame presentations were made to Roshaun Fellows, Dr. Drew Toole, Kyle Wagnon, and the 2005 State 3A Baseball Championship team, individual head coaches were recognized to give out awards for their teams.

In boys' track, Coach Chase Ellis presented Jaylon Marshall with the Cuthbertson-Hampton Award.  He also announced one, two, and three year lettermen and told the packed house that the 4x100 Relay team had placed 4th in State this year.  He recognized Jaylon Marshall as the 4th place winner in the State High Jump.

In girls', Coach Janice Reddick handed out the field events award to Nauja Hampton and the Distance award to Carlye Mitchell.  She handed out the Sprint Awards to Tori Tillman and  LaHarya Roberson.  The Runner of the Year was Jakrya Miller.  She noted that six of the track team had advanced to state.

In boys' soccer, senior Antonio Dubon was named to the All-star list and was named offensive player of the year.  Victor Xharicta was named the Defensive Player of the Year.  Coach Densmore recognized a number of his players for being named All Conference and All State.  A complete list of these will be in the Wednesday update.

Coach Steven Quoss announced that eight of his team had been named All-conference:  Cristal Couto, Beatrize James, Anahi Rostro, Hannah Richey, Abby Torres, Denisha Stallings, Rosa Bautista, and Maria Rodriguez.  Four were named to All Conference:  Cristal Couto, Anahi Rostro, Denisha Stallings, and Maria Rodriguez.  Hannah Richey was named Offensive Player of the Year.  Anahi Rostro was named the MVP on the team.  The top soccer award named after a young woman who worked hard to petition for a Girls' Lady Jack soccer team but never got to play-Diana Gonzales, was awarded to Giselle Villareal, a junior.

Coach Jimmy Sawyer recognized his tennis team and noted that two had received four-year lettermen awards.

Coach Sandra Hatley distributed awards for her Girls' Basketball team as follows:  Defensive Player of the Year-Tiayana Davis, Most Improved-Denisha Stallings, 6th Man Award-Dixie Puterbaugh, and the Lady Jack Award - Talitha Marshall.  Shamiqua Pickett was honored with a number of awards including, 4A All State, 8 4A All Conference, the Anne Smith Award, Most Rebounds Award, Best Free Throw Percentage Award, Offensive Player of the Year, and 1st Team selection for the South Arkansas Team. Shamiqua is a junior and will be returning in the fall.

In boys' basketball, Coach Jimmy May presented the following awards:  Darveon Brown-Ken Crosswell Award, All Conference, Mr. Offense to Darveon Brown; Mr. Rbound to Ryan Clary, 6th Man Award to Micah Richey, All Conference to Rashaun Franklin,  and Mr. Defense to Franklin  Gilmore. A complete list of all awards will be printed after it is released by the school.

Baseball awards were handed out by Coach Bryan Eagle as follows:  Justin Gorman All-Star List, Most Improved Nathan Hairston, Sam Rauls All-Star List, Hayden Lassiter-Extra Innings Game.  It was noted that Justin Gorman broke the RBI record this year that was previously held by Lumberjack Hall of Famer Matt Pace.

Coach Zack Wuichet presented the Defensive Award to Anna Bennett and the Offensive Player of the Year to Shamiqua Pickett.  Shamiqua  was named All-conference and All-state.

Top athletic honors were named at the conclusion of the ceremony.  The Jamie Raper Award was presented by Coach Bo Hembree to Senior Darveon Bown.  The Deno Nichols Award as presented by Coach Hembree to Senior Caylx Harris.
