UAMCHEER TAKES SECOND AT NATIONALS

MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello cheerleading team finished as the runner-up at the 2016 CheerLTD Nationals at CANAM in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on March 18.

The UAM cheer squad finished second in a field of 11 teams in the small coed collegiate division. UAM’s came in with a score of 114.75. First place Limestone College finished at 127.05. Third place Alabama-Huntsville finished at 112.95.

“This competition was a great experience for our program,” said UAM cheer coach Krystal Shipp. “Our team had one of the most difficult pyramid sections in our division, which scored a 9.1 out of 10… For a team that is made up mostly of freshmen, I am very proud of our ability to overcome the obstacles we faced throughout the competition season. This squad remained focused and had a positive attitude day after day. I know that we will use this experience as a catalyst to improve ourselves for next year’s national cheerleading competition.”

This is UAM Cheer’s second runner up finish at nationals in the past three years. The team came in second at CANAM in 2014, also in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
