WEEVILSBASEBALL EARNS NO. 4 SEED IN NCAA REGIONAL

MONTICELLO — The 26th-ranked University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team has earned the No. 4 seed in the NCAA Division II Central Regional Tournament to be played on the campus of St. Cloud State University in Minnesota May 19-22.

UAM will face off against No. 5 seed Missouri Western State in the first round of the tournament on Thursday, May 19. The Griffons (38-18) earned an at large bid out of the Mid America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. Game times will be announced once the complete tournament schedule is finalized.

This is UAM’s second NCAA regional tournament appearance. The first was in the 2014 season, going 0-2 at the regional hosted by Arkansas Tech University.

The Weevils (36-14) enter the regional needing one win to break the program’s record for wins in a single season. UAM won the Great American Conference Championship Tournament this past weekend to earn the league’s automatic bid.

The rest of the regional tournament bracket includes No. 1 seed and host St. Cloud State (Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference champion), No. 2 seed Central Missouri (MIAA champion), No. 3 seed Minnesota Duluth (NSIC at large), No. 6 seed Emporia State (MIAA at large), No. 7 seed Southwestern Oklahoma State (GAC at large) and Minnesota State (NSIC at large).

More information about the regional tournament will be released later in the week. The winner of the central regional will advance to the NCAA D2 College World Series in Cary, North Carolina May 28-June 4.
