Weevils Defeat Bison

MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello football team took down the Bison of Oklahoma Baptist University Saturday afternoon, in a home Great American Conference match-up.

Final score in this contest was 31-27 in favor of Arkansas-Monticello.

The Weevils (2-3, 2-3 GAC) balanced an offensive attack that saw UAM total 320 passing yards and 141 rushing yards. On the other side, OBU (2-3, 2-3 GAC) totaled 248 passing yards along with 149 rushing yards, however the Arkansas-Monticello defense provided big play after big play late in the fourth quarter of this game.

Trailing the Bison at the half 20-14, UAM continued to battle back into the contest in the second half. A 36-yard field goal by Josh Marini cut the visitor lead in half at 20-17 near the end of the third quarter. Imani Riley powered his way into the end-zone for the one yard score to give Arkansas-Monticello the lead at 24-20. OBU quickly answered back with a score of its own to swing the momentum back into the hands of the opposing team with a 27-24 lead. With just under four minutes left in regulation, Cole Sears connected with Jalen Tolliver for the 18-yard touchdown through the air to put the Weevils up at 31-27. Multiple sacks by the UAM defense ultimately sealed the victory for Arkansas-Monticello at 31-27 over the Bison.

"Unreal effort by our players tonight. We overcame a lot to get the win," head coach Hud Jackson said after the game. "This team is full of fighters!"

Offensively UAM was lead by sophomore running-back Imani Riley who totaled 153 yards on the ground for a 5.1 average and one rushing touchdown. Riley also recorded one reception for 21 yards as well.

Junior Jalen Tolliver provided yet another big game on the day with nine total receptions for 157 yards and one receiving touchdown.

The defense of UAM came up with key stops during the fourth quarter, with credit to defensive lineman Romairal Allen, linebackers Stacey Warren, Ja'lon Watts, and defensive back Lloyd Robinson who each contributed a sack on the final Oklahoma Baptist drive of the game.

Warren finished the game the Weevils top tackler with 12 total in the game, three of which were for a loss. Andre Adams secured his first interception of the season during the third quarter of this match-up, and added one tackle to his stat line as well.

Cole Sears led the Arkansas-Monticello passing attack, finishing the contest going 21-41 for 320 yards and one passing touchdown. Sears also ran for 17 yards and recorded one rushing touchdown. Jeremy Jackson added another touchdown on the ground for the Weevils in the second quarter with a 10 yard score.
