Smackover Team Wins Ladies’ Golf Tournament

The team of  Sonia Barker and Amy Impson of Smackover shot 3 under par 69 to win the First Flight of the Warren Ladies Pink Tomato Scramble Wednesday, July 12, at Warren Country Club.  Forty-eight women from Camden, El Dorado, Calvert and Frenchman’s Bend in Monroe, LA, Fordyce, Prescott, Smackover, Monticello, Norphlet, and Warren competed.  Nancy Vittitow of Warren and Shaun Lawrence Anderson of West Helena placed second in the first flight with a one-under-par 71.  Placing third with even par 72 was the team of  Diane Pennington and Robin Johnson of Monticello.

In the second flight , the Monticello team of Renee Treadwell and Shari Caron won first.
Second in this flight were Kim McDougald and Stacey Davis, also of Monticello.  Guina Elliott
and Susan Cole of Monroe, LA, placed third.

The third flight was won by Jennifer Edson and Connie Sanderlin of Monticello, and second was the team  of Rhonda Bolin and Teresa Echols  also from Monticello.  Placing third were Trish Brantley and Sharolyn Givens of El Dorado.

Other Warren players were Vicky Stewart and her partner, Karen Spears of Monroe;
the team of Lisa Higgins and Memory Frazer; and Joen Bryant and Glenetta Burks.

The prize for Longest Drive of the Day went to Diane Pennington of Monticello. Straightest and Longest Drive was won by Nancy Vittitow of Warren.    Kelly Wade of
Frenchman’s Bend Country Club in Monroe, LA, won the prize for ClosesEt to the Pin.

The ballroom showcased several works of art by Maribeth Frazer, local artist.
Vicky Stewart won the painting Ms. Frazer contributed to the tournament.

Glenetta Burks and Joen Bryant co-chaired the event.  Vicky Stewart chaired the
Breakfast Committee, and Nancy Vittitow chaired Snacks Committee with  Memory Frazer and Lisa Higgins in charge of water and soft drinks on the course.  Annette West of the local
Ladies’ Golf Association registered players.    Breakfast and dinner were provided by
Brandi Harvey, WCC manager, and staff.

Sponsors of the tournament were Arkansas Superior Federal Credit Union, First
State Bank, Union Bank, Warren Bank,  Johnson’s Hardware, Massey’s Florist, Pro Nails, Shelter Insurance, Farm Bureau Insurance, Super Valu, and Sissy’s Log Cabin of Pine Bluff.

Members of the Men’s Golf Association furnished carts for the event, and cart
“valets” for the day were both Joe Burkses, Race Frazer, Doyle Ozment, and Larry Stewart.
