In a hard fought game, that Warren lead at halftime, the Lumberjacks fell short in the opening non-conference game of the 2017 season by a score of 43-28 to Little Rock Christian.  The Lumberjacks

fell behind 7-0 as LR Christian drove for a touchdown on their opening drive.  They completed a long third down pass to keep the drive alive on the way to the first score.  The Jacks battled back with a young quarterback, a sophomore running back and several new players on defense.  J'Malachi Kinnard, a Jr., started his first high school game at quarterback and aquitted himself well. Sophomore running back Vincent Stepps also started his first high school game and played very well.  Warren displayed a number of good plays on offense and defense throughout the game, while making a number of mistakes that hurt, including giving up a couple of long runs after missed tackles.

The Warren kicking game looked pretty good minus one high snap on an extra point and a breakdown or two in coverage.  Keemontrae McKinight looked explosive and and had an outstanding touchdown catch and run early in the game.

Warren lead at halftime but sputtered some in the third quarter.  In the fourth quarter the Lumberjacks put another drive together and scored on a touchdown pass from Kinnard to Stepps. That was followed by a two point conversion pass again from Kinnard to Stepps.  Stepps finished the night with two touchdown runs, a touchdown reception and the two point reception.

The Jacks battled all night but need to continue to improve to make a run at another conference and state title.
Next up for Warren is the Stuttgart Ricebirds September 8th at Jim Hurley, Jr. Stadium.  Kickoff is set for 7:00 P.M.  Stuttgart is highly ranked in class 4A and will be a worthy opponent.  Warren fans need to show up and support the Jacks as they move forward with the 2017 season.
