Lumberjacks Play McGehee In Scrimmage

The Warren Lumberjacks traveled to McGehee Monday evening to take part in a controlled scrimmage against the McGehee Owls.  the practice scrimmage was not played according to regular game rules, but consisted of each team running a series of offensive plays against the other team's defense.  It provided an opportunity for the coaches to evaluate players and get in some serious game like practice against another team.  Most schools in Arkansas hold at least one scrimmage prior to the beginning of the regular season.

According to fans who attended the game Warren demonstrated its ability on both sides of the ball facing a very good 3A team.  The Owls are picked fourth in conference 6-3A behind Fordyce, Junction City and Smackover.  They have some talent.

Apparently the scrimmage was shortened due to lighting in the area but according to reports to SRC, Warren outscored the Owls 35-20.  To our knowledge there were not injuries to cause concern and Treylon Burks and Keemontrae McKnight made big plays.

The Lumberjacks open Tuesday night, August 29th at War Memorial Stadium against Little Rock Christian.  Warren will be the visiting team.  LR Christian is rated right behind Pulaski Academy in conference 5A Central and is the number five ranked team in class 5A by Hootens.  The game kicks off at 7:30 P.M.  It will be livestreamed by salineriverchronicle.com through the NFHS network.  A large Warren crowd is expected to be on hand to cheer the Jacks on.

The Lumberjacks return 7 starters on offense and 6 on defense to help make a run at a conference and state title.  Warren has an excellent group of returning linemen on offense and defense and numerous skilled players.  Junior quarterback J'malachi Kinnard will be calling the signals and a new featured running back including Damarcus Gilbert and Vincent Stepps will be carrying the ball.
The Jacks will have a new place kicker as well.  It is a talented team with some new pieces replacing some very talented seniors from 2016.  They should be fun to watch and see them further develop.  All 40 plus players on the 2017 are expected to contribute.
