UAM to Wear Blue Ribbons on Helmets

MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello football team will feature blue ribbon helmet stickers as apart of the uniform during the month of September, during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.

The light blue ribbon, which is the symbol for prostate cancer awareness, will be worn on the back of each helmet by Weevil football players throughout the month of September to begin the 2017 season.
September is recognized as Prostate Health Month and also Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Local and national awareness organizations and professional associations engage in activities designed to raise awareness of the issue and encourage men to talk to their healthcare provider about prostate cancer and early detection.

In the USA, about 180,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year, and almost 26,000 die from it. Early detection is the key to successful treatment. This awareness period, and the organizations and associations that support it, are responsible for saving an untold number of men's lives by encouraging them to have a discussion with their healthcare provider about prostate cancer and early detection.
