Lumberjacks & Owls Scrimmage/Soccer Rings Awarded

A big crowd showed up Thursday evening, August 16 to watch the Warren Lumberjacks and McGehee Owls get in some live scrimmage work prior to the start of the 2018 high school football season.  At half time, the 2018 State Champion Lumberjack Men's Soccer Team were presented their championship rings.  The crowd gave them an enthusiastic welcome.

The scrimmage was a situational controlled contest.  Each team got a number of plays on offense and defense with the ball being placed on various yard locations on the field.  Sometimes on the offenses two yard line and sometime on the opponents twenty or other locations. There was some kicking ( punts, kickoffs, field goals and extra points), but no live tackling or rushing.  The second half of the scrimmage consisted of one 12 minute quarter played by regulation rules.  The Lumberjacks won the quarter 10-0.

McGehee is a very good team.  They are picked first in class 6-3A and second overall in class 3A.
Warren is picked first in class 8-4A and first in class 4A.  Both teams played second teamers liberally and at times it was second team against second team.  The Jacks played several of their starters sparingly.

It was obvious watching that the Jacks have skilled talent and some linemen that have played before.  There are also several newcomers that look like they can contribute.  The team continues to be a work in progress early in the season.  Lumberjack fans are excited.

Remember, the first game is a Hooten's, Blue Cross/Blue Shield Classic set for Saturday, August 25th with the kickoff planned for 12:00 noon at North Little Rock High School.  The opponent will be Southside Batesville.  Buy your tickets in advance at local banks, the Credit Union and the Superintendents Office.  By purchasing your ticket in Warren, the school district gets to keep some of the proceeds.  Tickets bought the day of the game in North Little Rock will not benefit the local school.

Also remember to go to lumberjacklive.com to signup to watch the Lumberjacks livestreamed in case you cannot attend the game.  Replays will also be available to watch later.  We urge all Warren fans to attend the game if they can.  A large crowd needs to be on hand to support these young men.
