Lumberjacks Ahead/Lightning Cancels Game

The Warren Lumberjacks traveled to Stuttgart Friday night, September 7th to face the highly ranked Stuttgart Ricebirds in a battle of top ranked 4A teams.  The game was a non-conference contest, but an important early season game.

While the weather forecast called for a good chance of some rain, it looked good leading up to game time.  The Jacks won the toss and elected to receive the ball.  On the first play, Warren's Treylon Burks took a handoff on what appeared to be a power sweep, but pulled up and threw a deep pass to Cade Reep who raced to the Stuttgart 14-yard line.  The Jacks failed to punch in for a score against a very good Stuttgart defense front.  Warren's defense forced a punt and the Lumberjacks threatened again.  Warren settled for a field goal and took a 3-0 lead.  On the next Stuttgart possession, Warren's defense proved strong and Treylon Burks came up with an interception to put the Warren offense back in business.  With 3:27 left in the first quarter, Burks ran in for a 2-yard score.  The PAT missed and Warren was ahead 9-0.

The Jacks defense, which looked good all game forced another punt and the Lumberjacks quickly moved in ready to score again on good running and passing by J"malachi Kinnard, running by Vincent Stepps and receiving by Keemontrae McKnight.  The line began to open up some holes

With 10:56 to go in the second quarter, the officials stopped the game due to lighting.  It began to rain heavily and the lighting continued.  Finally the game was called.

The game will not be completed, since it was a non-conference contest.  It did not last long enough to be considered completed.   Next the Lumberjacks are set to play Dollarway, at Dollarway, Friday, September 14th in another non-conference game.  Kickoff is planned for 7:00 P.M.  This will be the final non-conference game prior to the start of 84A conference play.
