Jacks Conclude Season

Kilay Cox rushes for Lumberjack yardage.
The Warren Lumberjacks completed the 2012 football season in a 27-6 loss to Stuttgart in a Class 4A quarter final game Friday night at Stuttgart.  It was a hard-fought close game through most of the 3rd quarter until Stuttgart pulled away with a couple of long touchdown runs.  Stuttgart entered the g;ame rated #2 in Class 4A with the Lumberjacks ranked 5th.

Stuttgart scored first on a 5-yard touchdown run and made the extra point.  They were threatening to score again when the Lumberjacks forced a fumble at the Warren 6-yard line.  Odis Miller scooped the ball and ran 84 yards for a touchdown.  The extra point was just wide right leaving the halftime score 7-6 Stuttgart.

The Ricebirds were physical all night, and while Warren moved the ball, they were unable to score.  Warren's best opportunity drove the ball to the Stuttgart 4 yard line, only to get a holding penalty.  Later Warren fumbled and Stuttgart recovered.

Stuttgart scored on a 1-yard TD run and missed the extra point.  In the fourth quarter the Ricebirds scored on a long run and passed for a 2-point conversion.  Another 30-yard TD run and a missed extra point made the final 27-6.

Drake Jones is among the juniors
who will be returning next fall.
The Lumberjacks finished the year as 8 4A Champions and a record of 9-4 overall.  Warren will no doubt finish highly ranked in Class  4A.  This year's team has a small number of seniors and returns a large number of sophomores and juniors with extensive experience.  The Lumberjacks should be primed to be a serious championship contender in 2013.

Odis Miller, a junior defensive linebacker, was named the Warren Bank and Trust salineriverchronicle.com player of the game.

Congratulations to Coach Hembree, his staff, and the 2012 Lumberjacks.
