Football Projections For 2018

It may seem like the middle of Summer but guess what, the calendar is rapidly moving toward the 2018 football season.  Magazines like "Hooten's Arkansas Football" are hitting the racks and providing volumes of information on our favorite teams, both high school and college.  It is getting near to that time of what is called fall practice, even though the weather is seldom fall like for those practicing.  By the way, "Hootens" is available in Warren.

Those that have already viewed the magazine say that Lumberjack standout Treylon Burks is prominently featured in the publication and Warren is predicated to win the Class 4A Title.  The Jacks won the Championship in 2016 and finished second in 2017, in a controversial one point loss.

The Lumberjacks will open the season Saturday, August 25th against Southside Batesville at North Little Rock in the Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield Kickoff Classic.  The game is set for a noon time kickoff.

Burks is considered the number one high school recruit in Arkansas and one of the top recruits in America.  Marcus Miller is listed as the number seven recruit in the state.  Several other players are being recruited such as Keemontrae McKnight.  Beside Burks being featured in ads for the August Kickoff Classic, lineman Avery Weaver is also highlighted.  Warren returns eight starters on offense and seven on defense.

Coach Bo Hembree goes into his 19th season as the Warren Head Coach with a career record of 189-45-1.  Under his tenure the Lumberjacks have won 14 conference titles, four state championships and have been runner up three times.  Ironically each of the second place finishes were very close and two were very controversial.  Warren has been a powerhouse the past two decades in Arkansas.

Warren will be on the road a lot in 2018.  The schedule as currently set is as follows:
August 25th-Southside Batesville @ North Little Rock  Non Conference
September 7th-@ Stuttgart  Non Conference
September 14th-@ Dollarway  Non Conference
September 21st-@ Crossett  Conference
September 28th-Star City @ Warren  Conference
October 5th-Dumas @ Warren  Conference
October 12th-@ DeWitt  Conference
October 19th-@ Monticello  Conference
October 26th-Hamburg @ Warren  Conference
November 1st-@ Helena ( Thursday night )  Conference

This should be a fun and talented team to watch.  The Lumberjacks will face some very stiff competition both in the conference and in the playoffs if they are able to get there.  Two of the non conference games are against highly ranked 4-A teams.  According to Hootens, Stuttgart is ranked #5 and Southside Batesville is ranked # 6 going into the season.  The top five are Warren, Joe T. Robinson, Arkadelphia ( 2017 ) Champion, Pea Ridge and Stuttgart.  Hamburg is ranked # 13 and Dumas # 17.

Hootens lists former Lumberjack greats Darveon Brown as a number 2 wide receiver for the Arkansas State Red Wolves and Terrez Hampton as a starting wide receiver for the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys. A number of former Lumberjacks will be playing for college teams during the upcoming season.  It should be an entertaining year.  Let's get ready for some football!
